Scribbling Away

278

Estimated Reading Time 1 Minutes

It’s 3 am, can’t sleep again

So I scribble away through the dark with my pen.

Aches and pains, spasms and twinges

A tired mind and creaky hinges

They all act up as if on cue

My body knows the bill is due

The sun’s asleep and the time has come

To pay the price on the battles won

During daylight, I mostly held it together

Now the moon is high, it’s rougher weather

And I lay in bed rhyming away

Hoping a poem will ease the pain

And it sort of works, I like the diversion

But still, I pay a cost in exertion

The dawn will break, it’s not long now

And I’ll keep moving forward… somehow

But here in this moment, in my bed, in the dark

I  scribble away, fighting pain, letting words do their part.
