Growing Golden

Aspens grow golden in October. Other Mountain hills burn crimson, and the crisp, cool air calls me. I marvel at maples, enjoy the crunch of leaves under my feet, and revel in the glory of Fall. It reminds us that change can be beautiful. What may appear dead holds depths of color and possibility inside. A period of rest begins and rejuvenates the wonder waiting to burst forth. It’s pretty dang amazing.

I don’t appreciate shifting seasons the same way in my own life. Like most people, I wrestle with change. I like to smell the roses; I get attached to routines, comfortable with the way things are, and love deepens in my current relationships. Time has taught me to be grateful for now. Because it doesn’t last. And my heart often twinges with an ache that only comes from living.

Joy In Every Season

My dad is maybe the wisest person I know. I remember several years ago I asked him if he missed having really young kids now that we were all grown. He said no. There’s joy in every season. He said it as a matter of fact and simply. But that has stayed with me and helped me look for the happiness now rather that wishing it away.

In every season there’s plenty to celebrate. and there’s also difficult adjustments, patience, and the need for courage to begin again. I’ve learned that disappointment and gratitude can occupy the same space. .

Gratitude In Action

A broad intention to appreciate life is lovely, but you get further by being specific and of course taking action. Send a note instead of merely thinking fondly of someone. Invite a friend on a drive, print a favorite photograph, or keep a record of things that made you laugh. Keep it simple. But it makes a huge difference.

Make The Season Sensational

With that in mind, I made a free Fall Bingo card. Print it out and mark an activity each time you complete it. Five in a row makes bingo, and filling the entire board is an option for those with a competitive. Swap the order, adapt an activity to your energy, and make it your own. Keep evidence of your adventures with pictures or a pressed leaf, etc. Making memories with people you love is what life’s all about. Live the vibrant life!
