My Eulogy

I think Tom Sawyer had it right.

It’s a gift to hear and see what others think

Before you adventure past the brink

Before you leave this world behind

What legacy is left in others’ minds?

Forever is too big and heavy

It leaves me breathless and unnerved.

I can’t fathom it and so I swerve.

Into the grace that each day serves.

A smaller portion more easily carried.

And it’s the simple things I believe

That mean the most and last in time.

Memories shared, a laugh, a smile,

Good works prove you’ve put in the miles.

Think of me, that’s what I’ll leave.

I testify that God is real.

He feels our hearts, He hears our prayers.

Christ truly died, he knows and cares,

He rose again, we are His heirs.

His word, a heavenly meal.

When my time has come to its end

I hope I’ll pass this mortal test,

That friends will share of which I’ve been blessed,

And remember me with warmth in their chest,
And I’ll adventure on around the bend.
