If you only had a wall of stone
And some ink to make your presence known,
What message would you leave behind?
What mark would you make to outlast your time?

I don’t think souls have changed that much,
From caveman days or Egypt’s King Tut,
Down to the current era we share,
Our hearts still carry similar hopes and prayers.

The search for meaning consumes us all.
Creative works still adorn our walls.
Art conveys that the journey continues,
To express the ineffable issues.

Perhaps I’d create my own rune like the Vikings,
Combine my initials into a shape of my liking,
Or maybe a simple handprint would serve,
To leave a reminder that I walked the earth.

Rainbows have long captivated my brain,
A symbol of hope withstanding the rain.
And I’ve often longed to be like a bird,
With the freedom to soar and a voice to be heard.

Or I might decide to draw a tree,
An image of growth and changing leaves,
Because there is joy to be found in each season,
Then ultimately life comes to completion.

In the end, I tend to fall back on words,
They play my melody like the songs of the birds.
But in any form my message is clear.
I want you to know that I was here.
