Em’s Sunday Sonnets #1 A Solitary Soul

I’m a solitary soul, without love at my side,
A life alone, with just myself to keep.
I’ve no hand to hold, no man in whom to confide,
No comfort in the night, no kiss upon my cheek.
But in the solitude, I’ve found a quiet peace,
A sense of self and strength, that I might not have known.
I’ve come to love myself, to have faith and to believe,
Yes, in the separateness, I’ve grown.
I don’t need someone else to make me happy,
Still my life is filled with family and friends.
Inside and out, I’m joyful and scrappy,
I’ll strive on not knowing what the future portends.
Someday I hope for a companion by my side,
But life will still be beautiful if I’m never a bride.
